Buying location, this low functioning and unaesthetic 1961 kitchen, a new home for my downsizing client, was begging for a total remodel. Constricted by the inability to build on and being asked to stay in the original footprint, I was challenged to make a total renovation and utilize every square inch of the limited space. Pivotal to the renovation was removing the living/dining area wall and creating an open floor plan. I incorporated a large island with an eating area, storage, and below counter microwave. The sink area remained under the window allowing a view out to the spacious and bucolic property. The original laundry area hidden behind louver doors was awkward and impractical. Opening the walls and creating a stacked washer/dryer configuration with a secondary sink and storage area increased the efficiency of the area off the garage and side entry to the house.  As the client favors the beach and lake views, a serene sea glass blue palette was selected for the quartzite stone island counter, valance fabric and wall color. The kitchen now exudes refreshing tranquility and high function.
